Dr. Jose Fernandez - BA, MSAM, DC

Center Director

Dr. Fernandez received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from City College of the City University of New York, his Masters in Science in Administrative Medicine and Public Health from the Columbia University School of Public Health, and his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Columbia Institute of Chiropractic, now the New York College of Chiropractic.

His postgraduate studies in Nursing Home administration was completed at Long Island University of New York. Lastly he completed Harvard School of Public Health’s Health Systems Management Program in 1979 having been selected by NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation to represent the municipal hospital system from a pool of eighteen municipal hospital CEO’s. In 1984, having left the municipal hospital system, he re-imagined a health care model of integrative medicine and holistic wellness.

At that time he was identified as a pioneer in this innovative approach to holistic care by integrating Western medicine with an Eastern holistic wellness approach whereby the patient was seen a physical, mental and spiritual being. This model of care might have been the first of its kind in the field of integrative medicine, an idea that came to him having attended the Harvard School of Public Health’s program in Health Systems Management.
