Ms. Filippo has 30 years of experience in the Brazilian Healthcare System. Her work has been primarily in the field of psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. She has worked with the Cerebral Palsy of Massachusetts, particularly in creating positive living environments geared to enhancing the quality of life for Alzheimer patients. She has also worked with the Brazilian women’s group in Brighton, MA where she facilitated group therapy sessions as well as providing basic education regarding the dynamics of domestic violence and their impact on children and family as a whole. She also assisted victims of violence with goal setting, advocacy and referrals to appropriate agency as necessary.
She has served as a volunteer visiting psychologist for the Consulate General of Brazil, in Boston, MA. Her specific functions dealt with assisting new immigrants in their transition to the American Culture. It also included counseling individuals experiencing problems such as substance abuse, stress as well as social and vocational adjustment. She served as Human Resource Psychologist to General Motors, in São Jose dos Campos, Brazil and was principal psychologist for City Hall also in São Jose dos Campos, Brazil.
She has performed as a volunteer Psychologist to the MAPS (Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers) program in Cambridge, MA where she trained counseling professionals on how to implement specific programs to address domestic violence and sexual abuse in the Portuguese Communities. Dr. Jose M. Fernandez, executive Director of the Integrative Medicine and Holistic Wellness Center of Hyannis, considers Ms. Filippo a God sent to Cape Cod where her services to the Brazilian Community are so desperately necessary.
